The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) is a member-run, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to celebrating the best in science and history programs and all other related genres and programming. The WCSFP is the place where the science, history and content-rich factual media community gathers to share, explore and reveal how science and history are communicated to the world. Gambit’s Benjamin Overmeyer will join a delegation of South African producers under the banner of the Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) in attending the WCSFP in Hong Kong from the 18th to the 21st of November this year. On the 21st of July 2014, Bradley Joshua represented Gambit Films as part of the Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) on a panel at the 35th Durban International Film Festival in order to discuss the importance of transformation in the film industry and our experience working with ATFT on delegations to various international festivals around the world. It was a fantastic experience, and Gambit is proud to be associated with an organisation dedicated to change and developing emerging local filmmakers.
In June 2014, Bradley Joshua joined Gambit Films as the new General Managing and Executive Producer. As a shareholder in Gambit Films since 2010, Bradley’s experience which, spans across marketing, business planning as well as strategy development and execution, having worked in corporate for the last 16 years. He is sure to usher in a new era of growth and expansion for the Gambit brand. We look forward to having his experience and passion in-house full time, driving our rapidly expanding family into exciting new territories!

In March 2014, Gambit Films was represented by Producer Benjamin Overmeyer at this years Rio Content Market 2014, Brazil, courtesy of the Association for Transformation in Film and TV (ATFT). This was the fifth year the Market has taken place and the first to have welcomed an official South African Delegation. Making this even more meaningful was the fact that this delegation brought with it the celebrations of South Africa’s first twenty years of Democracy. The Rio Content Market seeks to bring together independent producers and broadcast executives in the hopes that new projects will be picked up and that the landscape of Brazilian and Latin America’s Television industries given exposure. This years slogan was “Here we do Business”, and indeed Gambit Films was able to do just that – gaining massive interest from various key, international players at the Market as a direct result from participation in the mission. Brazil and South Africa have a lot in common and more needs to be done in bridging the two nations creative industries. We wish Brazil all the best in the forth coming FIFA World Cup as well as the Olympics in 2016. We look forward to returning to next years Rio Content Market and hope to bring back success stories from relationships born from this years Market. In January 2014, Writer/Director Travis Taute will be representing Gambit Films as part of a delegation heading to the Sundance International Film Festival through the Cape Film Commission under the tutelage of the DTi. With the purpose of exposing the local film industry to an international market and continuing to build inter-continental relationships to further Gambit’s international platform, the mission is set to move many of Gambit’s projects forward. In December 2013, Gambit’s in-house Post-Production Supervisor Simon Beesley married his sweetheart Christie Fawcett in a beautiful ceremony in Kokstad, Kwa-zulu Natal. We know this is an unconventional place to post, but Gambit would like to take the opportunity to say congratulations to two of our very own! We wish you nothing but happiness and success on this new venture, for the rest of your days!

After a fantastic 2013, which entailed immeasurable progress on the feature film and television fronts, 2014 is set to be the year wherein Gambit soars to new heights. With a slate of feature films in development and heading into production later this year; a number of television pilots on their way to broadcasters, short films on their way to festivals around the world and our creatives heading to various world-renowned film markets around the globe; a strengthened resolve and dedication to the passion of film means only one thing: 2014 will become synonymous with the rise of Gambit Films. From the 18th – 23rd of July, Producer Travis Taute, Writer/Director Nosipho Dumisa and Co-Producer Junaid Ahmed engaged in the 4th Edition of the Durban Film Mart, pitching their feature film project, THE BILL to various international sales agents, distributors, financiers and co-producers after eventful workshops with leading industry experts. On the final night, THE BILL was handed the Festival Des 3 Continent Award, which sees THE BILL writer, Nosipho Dumisa heading to Nantes, France for a prestigious script studio workshop with some of the world’s leading script editors. It is a huge investment and step forward for the project and one Gambit is super proud of. Well done team!!
Congratulations to Director Nosipho Dumisa (Gambit Films) for making it into the selection for the Durban FilmMart 2013 with her feature film project “The Bill”. The Durban FilmMart Finance Forum provides selected African film-makers with the opportunity to pitch film projects to leading financiers and takes place in conjunction with Durban International Film Festival (DIFF). This year DFM will take place from 19-22 July, so we wish her luck as we work towards this amazing opportunity. It’s just another big step forward for Gambit Films!
