GAMBIT LAUNCHES MZANZI MAMELA!

On 21 February 2015, Gambit Films launched the Mzansi Mamela Film Festival in conjunction with The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC). This Phase One Initiative, sees us taking the art of film making to rural and disadvantaged communities. Benjamin Overmeyer, a Producer at Gambit Films is spearheading and driving this initiative. The Festival starts with a workshop, where groups of High School students are given the basics in film making. Following this, they will have 1.5 weeks to make a 3 min film which will be showcased on the Festival day, 2 weeks after the workshop. The Festival day will see us showing various cinematic works, including the participating students work. A winning group if film makers will be selected for the best film, with various prizes to follow. Our aim with this initiative is to unearth potential Film Makers and to grow the South African cinema going audience. Through the Mzansi Mamela Film Festival, we hope to further develop interest in local cinema for long term industry growth.

COMING SOON: NEW HERBEX TVC’S


In October / November 2014, Gambit Films produced a slate of inspiring Herbex Health Commercials that serve as testimonials to women that have achieved amazing changes in their figures due to dramatic weight loss. Directed by Gambit’s Nosipho Dumisa, these TVC’s are set to begin airing in January 2015 and have continuously inspired more women from all races, around the country to come forward and tell their story! We look forward to telling many more in 2015!

COMING SOON: THE MZANZI MAMELA PROJECT!


Gambit Films will soon be embarking on one of it’s most ambitious projects to date – The Mzanzi Mamela Project! Supported by the South African Department of Arts and Culture, Mzansi Mamela is a travelling film festival aimed at high school students spread across the nine provinces in South Africa. In aims to educate and expose previously disadvantages communities to the film industry through a combination of showcasing South African short films, conducting introductory film making workshops with industry professionals; and introducing a hands-on film creation competition available to all participants. Mzansi Mamela aims to awaken the passion for film making in tomorrow’s leaders, today. A 2-day programme, 9 Festivals, 9 Provinces, 27 short films each made in 72hours, a multitude of selected films, amazing guest speakers and extremely talented workshop conveners! Mzansi Mamela – it’s a Call to lights, camera & ACTION!! Commencing in March 2015, we look forward to bringing you updates on this awesome new adventure for Gambit!

2015: The Year of Gambit

Wow. 2014. What an incredible year for Gambit Films. We couldn’t have asked for busier, crazier or more fruitful year than that of the last 365 days. From Television to Film to Commercials to Corporate Videos to Documentaries, we covered it all and covered it well! It will, from now on, be described as the year that we reached a precipice in the building and solidifying of the Gambit brand, with 2015 following on to tip the scales over into the beyond. With amazing news already on it’s way, fantastic projects heading into production and growth beyond our wildest expectations about to occur, 2015 is set to be the year of Gambit. Of course, a massive thank you is due to the fantastic cast and crew we continue to work with and that continue to help us shine. The support of new clients, old clients and returning clients have all contributed to the exponential growth of the Gambit brand and we simply cannot wait to deliver the excitement that is about to befall us this year! Stay tuned as we continue to develop, produce and deliver the kind of content we’ve all dreamed of seeing on local (and a few international screens) since we can remember! But first… A couple of updates as to what’s been keeping us busy over the last few months…

BREAKING: ‘Nommer 37’ Picked Up For Feature Film Development!

Due to the incredible reception of ‘Nommer 37’ – Gambit’s latest short film – at the 2014 Silwerskerm Festival, we are pleased to announce that the project has officially been picked up for feature development. At the festival, scribe Daryne Joshua claimed the award for Best Script while co-directors Travis Taute & Nosipho Dumisa took home the award for Best Directors. The feature film is slated to go into production as early as April next year with a release date late in 2015. We look forward to bringing you updates on this exciting development!

GAMBIT TO COMPETE IN SILVERSKERM FEES COMPETITION!


In June 2014, the collective at Gambit Films were one of 15 teams selected to participate in the SilverSkerm Fees Short Film Competition. The script, Nommer 37 which, was written by Daryne Joshua, Nosipho Dumisa and Travis Taute commences principal photography in late July 2014. This exciting thriller, set entirely on the Cape Flats is a modern-day interpretation of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Rear Window, commenting on the current political landscape of the criminal underworld. The film, to be directed by Travis Taute & Nosipho Dumisa will premiere at the SilverSkerm Fees on Friday 29 August in Cape Town. Stay tuned as we bring you updates on this exciting project!

Ons Stories: ‘AS EK HUIS TOE KOM’

In July 2014, Gambit Films completed production on one of the 20 ‘Ons Stories’ Television Films for Kyknet & Kie. In association with Freeway Pictures in Johannesburg, this 48-minute Afrikaans film, set on the backdrop of Cape Town’s notorious ghetto, the Cape Flats, is an intimate reflection on one family’s struggle to cope with the loss of their patriarch, and tells the story of a young girl named Haddie, and her attempt to understand the meaning of life and the importance of family during a particularly tumultuous time. In the wake of her grandfather’s passing, Haddie, a gifted young poet is asked to do the eulogy at his funeral and while collecting stories for her piece from various family members, she accidentally resurrects old family wounds that may threaten to destroy her family for good. ‘As Ek Huis Toe Kom,’ directed by Travis Taute will premiere on the Kyknet & Kie channel in Spring this year. Coming Soon: Regal Pet Health TVC

In June 2014, Gambit Films completed filming on a television commercial for Regal Pet Health Products. The TVC is a testimonial and tells the true story of an abandoned dog named Stuart that was rescued by the Wet Nose NGO and how, using Regal’s skin care products, they nursed the sickly Stuart back to perfect health. Marking the first time Gambit has worked with the Catapult Media, we’re excited about this cute little commercial directed by Gambit’s Nosipho Dumisa, scheduled to go on air in Spring this year.
