Gambit Films Producer, Benjamin Overmeyer, attended The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers in Hong Kong this past November. He formed part of the South African Indies delegation, Celebrating 20 years of documentary freedom. The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers is a member-driven organisation formed by science and factual producers and broadcasters from around the world. Members gather for the annual conference in a different country each year. The organisation is administered by the board of directors of a UK-based, non-profit company (WCSFP Ltd), together with an elected Editorial Committee, who share responsibility for the management of the annual event. The nature of the congress is not an aggressive competitive pitching environment such as can be found at other markets/festivals. Rather it is a closed (no media) tight knit community in which relationships can be forged and current trends reviewed and future requirements tabled. With only 450 members, the ability to get close to commissioners / broadcasters / executives from around the world gives the WCSFP a unique position. Gambit Films was able to present its slate of factual content in development during the Congress which, was met with great enthusiasm. We looking forward to bringing you updates on these projects as soon as we are able to.
